Student of the Year
The Hairdressing Council 2007 Student of the Year Awards Sponsored by L'Oreal Professionnel and City & Guilds took place on 14 October 2007 at the L'Oreal Academy, Hammersmith. The winners were then announced at Salon International, Excel on the Fellowship Stage.
Learners from all over the UK were first nominated by their colleges or training centres as being top students and all nominees were then asked to complete a simple portfolio about themselves and their goals within the Hairdressing Industry.
Six Level 2 and six Level 3 learners were then invitied to contest the final which involved a practical where the Level 2 finalists had to complete a commercial blow dry and the Level 3 put up long hair.
The marks for each secion of the coompetition i.e. portfolio, practical and interview were then added together to find the two winners. Congratulation to Joe Slinger (Level 3) and Mathilde Heather(Level 2). Both winners can look forward to an exciting and full year ahead.
Congratulations also to Susn Bleasdale from Blackpool & The Fylde College who nominated Joseph and Stephen Coles from Stephen Coles Hair Design where Joseph now works and who supported him throughout the competition. Contratulations also to Emma Morgan from the Reflextions Academy in Bristol who nominated Mathilde and Gary Foster from North who is her employer and who supported Mathilde throughout.
Congratulations also to all those who reached the final - a huge achievement in itself and who had a day they will always remember. Those contesting the final in NVQ Level 2 were:

Criteria for nomination
Nominees must have passed their NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or 3 and must meet the following requirements:
- Completed all Level 2 or Level 3 modules within a two year time frame
- No longer than five years in the hairdressing industry
- If still unregistered, nominees must become State Registered Hairdressers when submitting their portfolios
- Nominees must undertake to attend the finals should they reach them, at Salon International on 15th October 2007
- Nominees should already be in, or committed to, a career in hairdressing
